Between 2 Speakers with Ryan Smith

Updated: Mar 12, 2019

Introducing 'Between 2 Speakers', where we ask the important questions to musicians, artists and DJ's to find out what makes them tick while at the decks and when away.

With our label event only a few weeks away we are getting the hard and little-known facts from all the artists appearing at Prism London. Today and appearing on the Prism Bar stage is Ryan Smith.

Hailing from the north of England, but based in South London, Ryan Smith has a broad range of experience behind the decks, playing under various monikers.

With shows under his belt ranging from The Warehouse project to Boomtown festival, the talented youngster takes inspiration from film scores to electro, creating sets that are more of a journey than your usual club experience.

Welcome to Between 2 Speakers Ryan. First up, tell us who you are and where are you from?

So, I’m Ryan. I’m originally from Macclesfield. (Manchester for anyone thinking it sounds exotic...) but currently living in South London.

Describe your music in 5 words or less.

Atmospheric, emotive, electro, techno goodness 😂

Who or what inspires you musically?

Really big fan of organic sounds, and also people who make Foley sounds for film. Think that stuff is really impressive. In general though, anyone doing something a bit different.

You can choose any one superhuman power. What is it? (Not including ‘the power to have all the powers’)

So if I’m not allowed all of them. And assuming other people have them. Can I mimic other people’s powers? .... or is that a cop out of getting them all 😂

If not! Maybe mind control or teleportation 🤔

Favourite thing to do away from music?

Eat. You could probably talk me into most things with good food haha

And finally….what can we expect from you on 23rd March?

Hopefully something you weren’t expecting. Ideally I’d like you to feel something. It’s gonna be a lot of fun, that’s for sure.

Thank you Ryan!

Ryan Smith is appearing at Prism London on 23rd March. Tickets and info available via Resident Advisor, Access All Areas and Event Brite.
