The London psychedelic extravaganza Tribal Village returns to The Steelyard on May 18th, and Furthur Progressions Records is hosting the Village Floor with an array of progressive artists. Between 2 Speakers sits down with headliner Altered State.
David Sheehan a.k.a Altered State is a well apprised Irish Dj and Producer. He is highly considered at the forefront of the Irish Psytrance scene, this being purely based on his ample talents as both an entertainer and a producer. He has just had his 2nd #1 release on Beatport and has released on Iboga Records, Iono Music, Blue Tunes Records, Furthur Progressions, Yellow Sunshine Explosion, Digital Nature Records, Pharmacy Music & more.

Tell us who you are and where are you from?
My name is David Sheehan from Dublin Ireland and produce PsyTrance under the alias Altered State.
Describe your music (DJ or production) in 5 words or less.
Driving, Hypnotic, Melodic & Groovy.
What inspired you to become a DJ or Producer?
I’ve always been very interested in music by doing it in school and playing the guitar from a young age. I got into dj'ing when i went to an afterparty and seen a now great friend from New York playing vinyl and everything snowballed from there. I got into production to further myself as an artist as dj’ing isn’t enough in the current scene. Starting out as a House & Electro dj progressing into Trance under the alias Dub Tek and really finding my feet when attending Life festival in 2012 when I was blown away by the wonderful sounds of Psytrance and here we are today!
You have 3 months to go anywhere in the world and do anything you wish, all expenses paid and all responsibilities taken care of. Where do you go and what do you do?
I’d love to have the time to go an attend some of the biggest psy trance events around the globe like Ozora, Boom (again), Universo Paralello, Rainbow Serpent, Burning Mountain, Antaris Project, Indian Spirit (again), Psy Fi. Adhana Festival to name but a few lol. You can’t beat a good psy festival atmosphere and the people are always so friendly and warming. Always such a wonderful experience attending these type of events.
Favourite thing to do away from music?
I love watching sport whether it would be Football, Racing, Golf, Darts, Tennis i’m in for it all lol. I also love playing airsoft with my mate we have really gotten into it in the last few years and really enjoy going out as it’s not only fun but great exercise. I also love video games and Sim racing which is my latest hobby to pick up.
And finally….what can we expect from you on 18th May?
You can expect a good journey through my music with a lot of bouncy driving music that will definitely get your feet moving and have you dancing throughout my set. Now i’m ready and super excited…Are you ??
